Welcome to Gaia’s Hope. My name is Mary and I’m a European Gardener from Greece.

This place is my gardening diary and you can find information about the plants I grow and some other posts also about off-grid living, green energy and rainwater harvesting.

I grow plants in 2 different areas

1. The first is a container garden in my city balcony. I have some plants here and I grow all my seedlings for my plot also

2. My off-grid priceless plot which is 4.3 stremata (= 4300 square meters = 0.43 hectare = 1.062 acre) near the mediterranean sea and pine-forest. My plot is 110 km from my city home and I need to travel almost 2 hours to go there. Gasoline is expensive so I can’t go there every week. I usually go once a month from March until October and stay there for a week at least.

I want to move there permanent but I need to collect some money before this because I must pay for many thinks (home, solar panels, more and bigger water tanks for rainwater).

In the plot I have 60 olive trees, many fig trees and some other fruit trees. I plant 2-3 trees every year usually.

As I said, usually I grow my seedlings for my vegetable garden in my urban garden and then I transplant them in plot. When I am there I watering my plants but the most days they must grow alone without watering. So as you can understand rain is my best friend always.
