Let's see what we can find inside

As you can see the students don’t wear beekeeping uniforms. They give us only beekeeping hats. It was the first time I wear beekeeping hat and it was funny The hats were only for the students, the professor didn’t wear anything .

In my area (the area of Macedonia in Greece) we have the Macedonian bee (Apis mellifera macedonica) and as they told me it’s more… calm bee. Well I am not sure yet about this, I will find it in the next month.

The beehives we open this time they had a problem with varroa and the beekeeper wanted the help of professor, so he bring the beehives in university farm.

The spring it’s the best time if you want to start lessons for beekeeping. The bees need warm weather to fly, so you can expect them in your gardens when you have at least 10°C (or 50°F). Now they need many pollen to feed their new offsprings because they must expand their colony. These offsprings will make the honey of the year.

  1. Great! That’ so exciting that you get to do this! Are you going to install hives at your plot? My mom used to keep two hives at my grandpas house in the country, but I was too small to go, so I really don’t know much about beekeeping. I just thought she looked funny in the hat, gloves, suit, and carrying a smoke can. LOL!

  2. With Colony Collapse Disorder, now is a great time to know more about bees and how to support them. Keep us updated, I’m really interested to hear what you learn in your classes.

  3. That sounds very interesting. Bees are so important to plant life. Do let us know how you get on with the lessons.

  4. @Lzyjo maybe…
    Well… ok I want some beehives for my plot but I’ll be sure about this when I will finish the lessons.
    I had no idea about beekeeping until now so I must learn first if I can do something like this.

    @Fern yes I agree it’s good to know. I think we don’t have this problem here yet. In lessons we learn anything about beekeeping in practice.

    @easygardener I will :)

  5. I couldn’t resist the Butterfly Award, which I’m forwarding to you. As I don’t usually join in these blog games, I’m not sure what to do with it, but it’s on my blog!

  6. @chaiselongue Thank you!
