Olive trees Pruning

We are in our property these days and we try to pruning the olive trees. I said “trying” because the weather is not so good with rain most of the time.

March was rainy and cloudy and most people around have a problem with olive trees pruning. Usually we are the last in pruning because we live far from here but this time I think we are from the first people. Some times we hear the noise of chain saw and see smoke around but not so often.

We have tomato seedlings already!

This year I decide that I want to harvest tomatoes in June so I start my seeds early on February 6-9. The days I start my seeds were lovely and sunny and warm.  December and January we had very good warm weather also and I wanted to start my tomatoes before Christmas to be honest. But I was waiting to see what will happen the next months and finally I have sown the seeds in February

So… I sow my seeds with the same way as usually. Outside with clear plastic cover. The first days the sun love my seeds everyday. But one day… the sky was open as we said in my language. Rain, Storm, Wind, Crazy weather. I was afraid for my seeds so I decide to take the seeds inside.

2011 Gardening Season!

I have months to write something here and the gardening season for 2011 just started for me. February was the month of seed madness. I send many heirloom seeds to friends in Greece and other countries so my desk it was full with seeds, stamps and envelopes.

I also search for my new needs. I found some interesting heirloom seeds from different people and organizations and I order some seed packets. Some of them are here already and I am waiting for the rest seeds to come.

The other thing I wanted except seeds  it was plant labels. Every year I sow more seeds and I need more labels. It’s not so easy to find here plant labels so I order from uk eBay usually. This time I order 200 plant labels and I hope I will not need other plant labels next year. It’s a big cost for me with package and posting from uk. The good part is that you can use these plant labels many years. I write the varieties and dates with a pen I had for cd’s and the autumn I clean my labels easily with cheap blue alcohol.

Tomatoes are green and growing

When I was in plot my tomato plants were bigger and some of them full of green tomatoes. I am sure I will eat tomatoes when I will go there again in July if the plants survive without watering.

Orange Banana tomato is one of my favorite varieties until now.

silvery fir Tomatoes are green and growing

Silvery Fir tomato with its strange leaves had many tomatoes in every plant. The tomatoes are in the middle of the plant 10 cm above the soil. It was difficult to tie up the branches but ok this is my problem only because I late to tie up my tomato plants.

Yellow-Taxi tomato. This year I was lucky and I have 2 plants! It was my last seeds and this variety has its story in my garden because I had seen this tomato in Patrick’s blog 2 years before and he ask me if I wanted seeds. I said yes and after Patrick ask me if I wanted other seeds also and he send me 4-5 seeds from many colorful tomato varieties. So for me, it’s a special tomato for this reason.

Well that’s the photos I have this moment. The good part is that this year I grow some new heirloom varieties so I will grow my small seed bank also.
