Plant your Roots in Greece
Last year, it was a sad year for Greece. We had many fires. Beautiful forests were burned in summer. Many forests.
Today I found this banner in a site with a link to World Council of Hellenes Abroad U.S.A. Region.
Plant Your Roots in Greece Foundation is a non-profit organization, established in 1991 in Washington. It was presented to the Greek-American community in 1994 at the annual conference of the Hellenic American National Council held in Chicago. The foundation was placed under the auspices of the National Council during the devastating fires in Greece. Over the last years it has been very active promoting its program within the wider Greek-American community and also in Greece where the first Greek branch was established in 2004.
Thank you all for your support! We can’t get back the people who died in flames but we can get back our forests…

I remember hearing about those terrible fires in Greece. We have a lot of fires where I live too and my house is in a fire zone. Summer is a very scary time for us when there is a hot and strong north wind. At least it is winter here now and everything is cool and green.
I also remember hearing about the fires in Greece.
I used to live in a part of California that regularly had fires. I lived in a city, so I wasn’t at risk, but it was always a very unpleasant time when there were fires. Destruction of the environment, dirty air, people injured or killed, people becoming homeless, friends and family affected in some way.
I hope it’s a long time before you have to go through that again in Greece!
@Kate I hope for less fires this year. Summer is here. And the fisrt (small) fires also.
I live in a city and we have only a small forest near (we burn this forest some years before), but my plot is in a fire zone.
@Patrick I don’t remember fires like these. All country was in flames. Bad year, very bad year.
Horrible, just horrible!!!
@Barbee’ yes it’s horrible…
Every day we feel frightened and wait for the next fire. Today we had 3 fires. Two of them near Athens. People here feel angry with government.
