One Redhaven Peach tree was purchased from a nursery when I was in plot and planted at 11 March 2009.

I don’t know many things about peach trees because it’s my first but I can read from the tag that it makes round or oval medium – large fruits with a dark red coloured skin and a tasty, firm, juicy yellow coloured pulp which barely adheres to the stone when ripe. It also writes that ripens from the middle of July onwards.

The tag of the tree is in 4 languages (but not in Greek – funny) so I know the name of this tree in Italian (Pesca Redhaven), in French (Peche Redhaven) and in Spanish also (Melocoton Redhaven).

The cost it was 5 € for a tree about 150 cm high. I search about peach tree and I read that lives 30 years and gives fruits from the third year. I have no idea how many years old is my new tree, maybe it’s in first or second year.

To be honest I didn’t wanted to plant a peach tree in the plot because it needs many water to grow and we can’t go there so often for watering. I went to nursery because I wanted to buy an apple tree but when my father saw the peach tree he push me to buy it because he likes the peaches.

I have no idea if we ever eat fruits from this tree but it’s ok, we also have a lemon tree, a tangerine and an orange tree without fruits. We will see…

  1. My horticultural in-laws say that peaches are hard to grow unless you bag the fruit because it’s so tempting to pests. Who cares – I hope your baby grows up to be very productive and delicious.

  2. I have no idea!
In my country we have many peach trees and we export many tones of peaches every year. We have so many peaches that farmers bury many of them (ok crazy I know but it has relation with agricultural politics and EU).
But (and this is a big but), usually the trees are growing in areas with many water.
And the watering is bigger problem for me than pests :)
I will keeping posting about this tree and we will see if it grows or not

  3. I am Elias who lives in a peach growing village in Lebanon(Beit Chabeb) ; I am a horticultural expert.Pruning peach trees is the strong point in growing your tree to be highly productive ; reading alone does not give you much ; you have to know every branch before pruning this and every winter. The short branches are the producers ; the tree you planted is a 2 years old one with a good supply of short branches. The first few years are to grow a strong main branch framework ;cut your tree at 1 meter height and choose 4 branches and cut them back to 20 cms each. Continue this procedure for 3 years to build a branch and its fruitful laterals. Then cut the old fruitful branches to short shoots near the first 15 cms(2 short branches/old branch). Remove completely weak old growth as it will disrupt the growth. The tree can live up to 30 years and it will be even more productive if you plant an Elberta peach as it cross pollinates each other for higher production. You have chosen a Red Haven ; its a great taste large fruit variety from mid July. ….. Thanks for choosing that variety…..
