Spartium junceum
One of the common Greek wild plants I can find around the plot is Spartium junceum.

We call this Mediterranean bush “sparto” and it blossom in spring. In some cases you can find it grew in gardens or streets. I love the beautiful yellow flowers of this plant.

The english name of this plant is Spanish Broom or Weaver’s Broom.

It’s a beautiful plant and the scent of a hillside covered with them is amazing. We have them here in the Languedoc too. You’re lucky to have them on your plot.
Here in our state of Australia they are a weed! They smother our native plants and take over the hillsides…but they are very pretty!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
@chaiselongue you’re lucky to have them in your area. When this plant blossom I know the summer start and wait the hot days.
@Kate all wildflowers and wild plants are weeds. But some of them are just beautiful. Here spartium is native plant, but we don’t leave it to grew inside the plots, only in perimeter. We remove the new seedlings if we don’t want it in big areas.
In my plot my worse weed is blackberry. Every year we have war with blackberry plants.
We have one of those growing on our allotment. We grew it from seed which we collected in Ikaria.
It is a lovely bright yellow – very cheerful!
@easygardener I have many friends from Ikaria but I never went there. If you publish photos from your spartium give me the link.
In Ikaria there is one organization which collect traditional vegetable seeds. (I send them email but they didn’t answer me)
Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing!
Best wishes.
Sincerely,
-Liane Schmidt.
