The onion beds in plot

The onions were planted in plot on March 10, in 3 different beds. It was easier to dig this time because we call a man with tractor the previous day and he dig the 1/3 of the plot.

We had many years to pay for tractor and the dirt it was tough with many weeds and wild blackberries plants around. We must call him again to clean the olive grove with his tractor.

We purchased 2 different onion varieties (don’t ask me about, I don’t know the names). The first variety is a white onion and we planted 1Kg small onion sets. The second is red and we plant 0.5 Kg small onion sets.

So after the tractor work, we dug the dirt and prepare 3 different places to plant the onion sets.

The first place is something like flower-bed. There I plant red onions sets in lines alternately with carrots seeds and in front I plant mallow grafts (I forgot to take a photo from the this place).

The second place we dug is a square 3,5m x 2,5m and we plant white onion sets there.

The third place is next to oregano place and it’s my first organized attempt to mark a bed but I have nothing to put arround. The dimension of this bed is 1,20m x 5,60m and I plant white onion sets mostly in this place.

That’s it!  Now I must wait until the middle of August to harvest my onions.

  1. The tractor sounds a good idea. It looks like it would have been very hard work to dig it yourself – and would have taken much, much longer. Good luck with the onions. I grow red ones too. They are so attractive.

  2. @easygardener last year (May)it was just impossible to dug a bed for tomatoes.
