Well… gardening it’s not the only thing I search about. There are many other things and all of them have a relationship with off-grid living.

I’m trying to gardening in my plot which is far,without water or electricity. It’s impossible to went there for a day only for watering the plants. And from the other side, I don’t have so much water for watering my plants very often because I collect rainwater and we don’t have many rains usually after May.

Rainwater Harvesting
We have this plot almost 35 years in family. When my parents decide to clean the plot from weeds I was 10 years old. After that they start plant trees. Olive trees. Olive trees can live without water but not when the trees are young. So they fill small barrels with water and went there to watering the small trees. Some years later they decide to collect rainwater. This moment we have a metal 6.000 litres water tank there and we will build one more for harvesting 30.000 litres when we will found the money. For me rainwater harvesting is life, so I search how the people around the world harvest rainwater.

Green Energy
I grew in a big city. I had electricity all my life. I learn to live without electricity in plot. I don’t have problem most of the time but the summer with 38-40 Celsius I need a glass of cold water. The food it’s not so big problem without refrigerator because the village is very close and we can bought food every day. We usually have a problem with fresh milk and meat.
Except refrigerator my other problem is internet. I work with internet so I need to be connected at least one hour every day when I am in plot. I bought a new eee pc netbook with big battery and I will buy a packet for mobile internet soon. But I need some electricity for 4 hours every 2-3 days.
So I need a solar panel system and I search all the time about solar energy.

Gaia’s Hope
My heart wants to live there permanent. I want to leave the city but I can’t do it this moment because of money. I will not have clean fresh water there if I don’t find 4.000 euro. I also need at least 1000 euro for some small solar panels and 800 euro for a driving licence. It’s not easy to find the money.
In Greece economy is tragic this moment. Many young people leave the country and went in other european countries. The cities had so many people without works. I decide to bet in Gaia and leave the city as soon as I can. My hope is the Gaia’s Hope, a hope for a more sustainably living near the nature and far from city. The future is Gaia, you will never hungry if you sow real seeds.
